The Louvre in Paris used 3D technology to compare three glazed ceramic vases. Experts at the department of Islamic Antiquities knew that one, the Rifaat vase, was produced in Granada, Spain, during the 14th or 15th century. They aimed to show that the two other vases came from the same mould as the Rifaat vase. By aligning 3D models of the middle portion of the vases, experts were able to test how far their shapes and sizes matched. The level of similarity, scientifically measured, proved that the three vases came from the same mould and, therefore, the same workshop.
