Replicate

Replicate

The Kazafani boat was excavated from a tomb in Turkey which dates to the 12th century BC. Handmade from pottery, it was too fragile to be moved, so the specialist at the Cyprus Museum, in Nicosia, decided to make a replica. The boat was carefully scanned and modelled, and, using rapid prototyping technology a physical copy was made. This replica recreated the original colours, surface markings, evidence of past damage and even previous episodes of restoration. it has allowed conservators to analyse the fragile artefact as part of a travelling exhibition in New York.
